The African Institute for Epistemology and Philosophy of Science (ACEPS) in collaboration with The Society for Applied Philosophy invites scholars, researchers, and activists to the Resistance and Emotion Workshop to explore the complex interplay between emotions and resistance in social and political life. While existing scholarship has examined affective injustice the emotional basis of action, the use of media in provoking and shaping social change and imagining epistemic and agential possibilities, much remains to be done to understand the affective dimensions of resistance particularly from Global South perspectives. The workshop aims to bridge this gap through inter disciplinary dialogue featuring prominent keynote speakers, paper presentations and roundtable discussions on themes such as Transnational Solidarity, and The Psychology of Resistance.

Workshop Themes:

• Emotions such as anger, hope, fear in motivating resistance to oppression
• The affective dynamics surrounding individual, collective, and transnational struggles
• Emotional labour and affective injustice in activist movements
• Art, performance, and other affective expressions of resistance (e.g. graffiti)
• Online/digital protest and resistance
• Emotion, decolonisation, and epistemic injustice
• Intersections of gender, race, and affect in resistance practices
